Community Voices and Social Change: Engaging Communities with Ethnography

This hour-long panel discussion will explore the strategies of local social change organizations who put documentary and ethnographic techniques to work in their efforts to impact public policy and social justice issues. After briefly introducing their organizations, panelists from Southerners on New Ground, Hidden Voices and Student Action with Farm Workers will focus on the power of story to educate, address misperceptions and open new channels for community conversation. Discussant Barbara Lau will host this conversation and facilitate discussion between panel members and conference attendees.
